Comparing Supplier Offers Beyond the Unit Price
Unit price is one variable. Lead time, conditions, documentation and reliability often matter more.
When offers arrive, the temptation is to rank them by unit price. That is rarely the right comparison.
Compare on consistent criteria
Use the same criteria for every offer: specifications met, price, lead time, commercial conditions and documentation. A price that looks lower can hide weaker conditions or a longer lead time.
Read the conditions
Payment terms, minimum quantities, validity of the offer and what is included in the price change the real cost of a supply. Two offers at the same unit price can have very different total costs.
Weigh documentation and reliability
A supplier that provides complete documentation and responds consistently is often worth more than a marginally cheaper one. Reliability is part of the value.
The goal of the comparison is not the lowest price, but the best-informed decision.
